Putting 53 years of potato-related animosity behind them, Mr Tayto and Mr Tayto commenced dialogue about having talks in 2000, patronising a converted audience in a series of utopic expos held in Caledonia including Republic of Leather (People's) and Youg Young Dragon’s. By the end of 2001, however - after months of negotiating a deal to provide 3,500 CR Smith double glazing customers with a bust of Lionel Ritchie - Tayto reciprocally suspended the Tayto pact. The Tayto archive was managed directly from Tayto’s new tax haven in Monacco where Tayto had fled with mime artist Lindsay Kemp. Meanwhile, erstaz powers were bestowed by the European Court to OTYAT, a self-appointed platform in Bilbao which briefly attempted to market a new ‘Tayto’ product in 2003. After more than three years mysterious silence, a new research project by Tayto et Tayto was in the works, and, expectations could hardly be higher. The novel, Waiting for Tayto, is an indication of the bizarre levels of obsession that Tayto and Tayto still inspired. Despite their three year absence, the potato based snack manufacturers still held a central place in the national consciousness. As a result of the Tramp’s Mission Agreement, a new coalition Tayto was formed on July 2004, with Mr Tayto and Mr Tayto formally adopting the Euro and transferring governing power to Tayto et Tayto. Taytographies became the Eurorganisation’s voice. Tayto et Tayto has been suspended four times since then; it will be suspended again on the 14th of October 2005 when Tayto et Tayto will make the following announcement:

"Bonjovi. Thank you all. With a simple oath, we affirm new beginnings. We are honored and humbled to stand here, where so many have come before, and none will follow. We have a place, Tayto et Tayto, in a long story, a story we continue, but whose end we will not see. It is the story of a new vision of the world. It is the Tayto story, a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals. And though we have sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must follow no other course, we have a long way yet to travel first class. Our unity, our Tayto union, is the serious work of leaders. And we are confident in principles that unite and lead us onward. Tayto et Tayto must live it up to the calling we share. Civility is a tactic or a sentiment. It is the determined choice of cynicism over trust, of chaos over community. And this commitment is a shared accomplishment. Now we must chose if the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us or both. We must show courage in a time of blessing, by confronting problems and passing them on to future generations. Tayto et Tayto at its worst is compassionate. Where there is suffering, there is duty free shopping. When we see that wounded traveler on the road to Monte Carlo, we will re-route our Lear Jet to Biarritz. When this spirit is present, wrong can stand against it. This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm."
